What is Music Therapy?
“Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.” (American Music Therapy Association, 2005)
Who receives Music Therapy?
Music Therapy services at Quad Cities Music Therapy are provided for children and adults with special needs, such as:
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Behavioral Disorders
- Cerebral Palsy
- Down Syndrome
- Physical Disabilities
- Rett Syndrome
- Traumatic Brain Injury
Clients do not need to be musically adept to benefit from music therapy.

Who provides Music Therapy?
Music Therapy services are provided by a Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC). An MT-BC has successfully completed a 4-year college degree in Music Therapy, completed a 6 month internship under the supervision of an experienced clinician, and passed the Board Certification examination. MT-BC’s must also work to increase their knowledge and maintain their credentials through Continuing Music Therapy Education.
Music Therapists at Quad Cities Music Therapy are credentialed through the Certification Board for Music Therapists, and adhere to the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics set forth by the American Music Therapy Association.
Getting Started…
Individuals interested in pursuing Music Therapy services may schedule a free 30-minute consultation with one of our Music Therapists to learn more about our services, and acclimate the client to the treatment setting.
Following the consultation, the Music Therapist will perform an assessment to determine the goals and objectives for the treatment. After the assessment is complete, the therapist will develop a treatment plan designed to target the client’s specific objectives during Music Therapy sessions.
