Music Therapy – a brief intro

Today in America, a stroke survivor is relearning how to walk with a steady gait.  Today in Iowa, a child is being helped through cancer treatments with the help of a procedural support team.  Today in the Quad Cities, a teen with autism is learning new ways to express himself.  What do they have in common?  Each one is being supported by a Board Certified Music Therapist.

Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music to achieve non-musical goals. During music therapy sessions, Board Certified Music Therapists utilize a variety of instruments and techniques to help clients address goal areas such as improving communication, motor coordination, socialization, cognition, providing pain management, and supporting mental health.  Clients are actively engaged in singing, drumming, listening to music, and creating music, but do not need to have any musical skills to benefit from the therapy.

Music Therapists work in a variety of settings…from schools to hospices, for young and old, they are using music to make a difference. How can Quad Cities Music Therapy help you or your loved one?
